DotHTML is an app for opening, keeping and sharing HTML pages on iPhone, iPad and Mac, with a website at dothtml.app and shared pages at dothtml.link. It's published by Appnest Technologies LLC ("we").
In short
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking. We don't sell or rent anyone's data, and DotHTML has no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- Your library stays on your devices and in your own iCloud. We can't see it.
- Some features need DotHTML's server: AI features, AI apps saving pages, sharing by link, notifications and the optional account. They send only what they need, and only when you use them.
- You can delete everything we keep, from the app, at any time.
Your library
Files you open or save in DotHTML are kept in the app's private storage on your device. If iCloud is on, your library syncs through your own private iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit), which only you can read. Data that pages save while you use them (such as localStorage and cookies) stays on each device, separately for each file, and is deleted with the file.
Pages you open may load images, scripts or other content from websites, and saved links are downloaded from their websites. Those requests go directly from your device to those websites, which have their own privacy practices. We don't see or record that traffic.
Features that use DotHTML's server
Translate, Ask About Page, cloud summaries and Listen. When you use one, the text of the page (and your question, for Ask) goes through DotHTML's server to the AI service that does the work: Google's Gemini, and for Listen's voices, ElevenLabs. Our server passes it on and doesn't store it. It counts how many requests your install makes each day, for the free allowances. Translations you keep stay on your devices. Summaries on the device (Apple Intelligence) never leave it.
AI apps (ChatGPT, Claude and others). If you connect an AI app, the pages it saves to DotHTML are kept on our server, with their earlier versions and a short record of what changed (which app, which page, when), so they reach your devices. For each connection we keep the app's name, the address it returns to, and its access keys, stored only in a form that can't be read back. Pages stay until you or the AI app delete them, or you delete your data.
Sharing by link. When you share a page by link, we keep the page, its title, a small picture of it and, if you add one, the name you want people to see. Anyone who has the link can open the page, in DotHTML or a web browser. We record which DotHTML installs opened it, so they get its updates and you can see how many opened it. The page stays until you stop sharing it, or until we remove it for breaking the Terms of Use. If you report a shared page, we keep the report (which page, the reason and your note) to review it; the person who shared it isn't told who reported it. When you open a page someone shared with you, we record that your install follows it, to send you its updates.
Notifications. If you allow notifications, we keep the address Apple gives your device for them, to tell you when an AI app saves a page or a shared page changes. You can turn them off in your device's Settings.
Your install's identifier. The first time you use one of these features, the app creates a random identifier for your install on our server, to keep your things apart from everyone else's. It contains no name, email address or device identifier.
DotHTML Account (optional)
You can use DotHTML without an account. If you sign in, with Apple, Google, or a link we email you, sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. We keep your email address, your name, how you signed in, and your Firebase user ID, so your devices and AI apps reach the same things. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email address.
Signing in on dothtml.app (for example, to approve an AI app) sets one cookie that keeps you signed in on dothtml.app for up to 90 days. It's used only for signing in; dothtml.app has no advertising or tracking cookies. dothtml.link, where shared pages are shown, sets no cookies.
Purchases
DotHTML Pro is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment; we never receive your payment details. The app learns from Apple whether you have Pro.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare: delivers dothtml.app and dothtml.link and protects them from attacks.
- Our server, which we run on a rented machine, stores what's described above.
- Google: Gemini (AI features) and Firebase Authentication (the account).
- ElevenLabs: voices for Listen.
- Apple: iCloud, notifications, Sign in with Apple and the App Store.
Each one gets only what it needs for its part, and they handle it under their own terms and privacy policies.
Logs and backups
Our server and Cloudflare keep request logs (IP address, time, the address requested) for about two weeks, for security and to fix problems. Our server's data is copied once a day, and each copy is deleted after 14 days.
Deleting your data
- With an account: Settings → DotHTML Account → Delete Account removes your account, the pages AI apps saved, your links and your AI connections from our server, and your Firebase account.
- Without an account: Settings → Connect ChatGPT or Claude → Delete DotHTML Server Data removes everything we keep for your install.
- One page: Stop Sharing removes a shared page. Deleting a file removes it and its page data from your library (and from your iCloud, if iCloud is on).
What's deleted also leaves our backups within 14 days. You can also email us to see, correct, export or delete your data; we answer within 30 days.
Security
Everything between the app, the website and our server is encrypted (HTTPS). Shared pages run in a sandbox, apart from dothtml.app, so they can't reach your account or other pages.
Children
DotHTML isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app.
